Softball Falls in Final Two Games of Gene Cusic Classic

Naples, FL - The Polars Softball team faced off with Western Connecticut State and the Alfred State on Friday and fell by scores of 9-1 and 17-5.

In game one the Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. After an Abbey Underdahl triple Catelyn Garza drove her in on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 2-1. Western Connecticut State opened up the game in the bottom half of the 2nd and 3rd innings scoring seven unanswered runs to take the victory 9-1. Crown totaled 4 hits in the contest.

Emmy Romportl led the Crown offense going 2-3 at the plate with two singles. Romportl pitched 5.2 innings and allows 9 hits and 4 earned runs.

In the second contest of the day Crown faced off with Alfred State. The Pioneers jumped out in front with a massive 9 run second inning to take the 10-0 lead. Crown scored a few of their own in the second inning but the Pioneers cruised to a 17-5 victory after 5 innings of play. The Polars as a team totaled 5 hits in the contest.

Garza and Maliya Martinez led the Crown offense with 2 hits each. Martinez was able to reach with a double in one of her at bats. Underdahl added 2 RBI's in the game.

The Polars fall to 2-14 on the season and will head back to Minnesota for their UMAC opening series against Minnesota Morris with a 3pm game time on Friday, March 22nd at home.
