Polars Softball Drops Two Contests to Panthers

Naples, FL - The Polars Softball team faced off with Greenville University and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Thursday and fell by scores of 16-8 and 5-2.

In game one Greenville got on the board first to take a 2-0 lead. The Polars scored three runs in the bottom half of the 1st inning after two walks and hits from Katie Vaughan and Abbey Underdahl. The Panthers answered and then Crown took the lead right back after a Vaughan double. Crown held the 7-4 lead going into the top of the 5th inning but couldn't hold back the Greenville bats as they totaled 12 runs in the 5th and 6th innings combined as the final score read 16-8 favoring Greenville.

Vaughan totaled 3 hits on 4 at bats to lead the Crown offense. She also added 2 RBI's. Underdahl and Maliya Martinez both added a few RBI's. Emmy Romportl and Abbie Carroll both pitched in the contest.

In the second contest of the day Crown faced off with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The Panthers got on the scoreboard first with the 3-0 lead at the end of 4 innings. The Polars scored 2 runs cutting into that lead in the 5th inning after hits from Martinez and Underdahl. The Panthers rattled off a few more runs to take the 5-2 victory in seven innings.

Carroll pitched all 6 innings of play and allowed 5 earned runs. The Polars only totaled 3 hits in the contest,

The Polars fall to 2-12 on the season and will finish up the Gene Cusic Classic with contests tomorrow March 15th against Western Connecticut State at 7am (CST) and Alfred State at 9am (CST).
