Tucson, AZ - The Polars baseball team faced off with the Hamline Pipers in a doubleheader on Tuesday and won the first 13-12 and lost the second 9-2.
Crown scored first in game one after a few hits and a
Rhys Dewick triple giving the Polars an early 2-0 lead. Hamline scored three of their own to take the lead back in the top half of the 2nd inning. The Polars offense came alive in the bottom half after 4 straight 2 out hits to give Crown the 7-3 edge. The Pipers once again answered with 7 runs over the next three innings. A double from
Tyler Olson and a few more runs came in to score to even things up at 10-10 going into the 6th. A tie game going into the bottom of the 8th saw
Ethan Habetler send a sacrifice fly out to center field and Crown came out on top 13-12.
Louis Garcia and
Drew Girtz both notched 3 hit efforts in 4 at bats. Dewick and Olson both went 2-4 on the day.
Mason Brock totaled 4 RBI's to lead the Polars.
Jefferson Barmoy pitched 4 innings before
Danny Gallardo relieved him. Gallardo pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs.
Drew Girtz shut the door after 1.2 innings and earned the win in the process.
Game two favored Hamline after 9 unanswered runs over the course of the first 3 innings. After a triple from Habetler and a single from
William Hellard the Polars pushed across 2 runs but it was not enough as the Pipers won game two by a score of 9-2. Crown totaled just 6 hits as a team.
Hellard led the Crown offense as he went 2-3 with 1 run batted in. Crown sent five different pitchers to the mound in the contest.
The Polars move to 2-3 on the season and will next face off with Augsburg University at 11:30am (CST) tomorrow March 13th and then take on Macalester College at 3pm (CST) tomorrow as well.
