Tucson, AZ - The Polars baseball team dropped contests to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Edgewood on Monday by scores of 14-2 and 4-1.
Game one saw Aiden Volk-Specht take the mound first for Crown. A two run home run by the Stags gave CMS the early 2-0 lead. Outfielder
Rhys Dewick answered back with a solo shot of his own in the bottom half of the 1st cutting the lead to just one run. Volk-Specht was relieved after two innings on the mound as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps totaled 7 combined runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Stags took it from there as Crown was able to muster up 5 hits on the day.
Freshman
Tyler Olson and
Bryan Gerbers both went 1-1 from the plate.
Drew Girtz went 1-2 with a walk.
Tristan Camp,
Mitchell Cox, and
Noah Neal all saw action on the mound combining to finish the last 5 innings of play.
The second contest of the day saw Crown face off with Edgewood. After two and a half scoreless innings of play the Eagles pushed 2 runs across after two hits, two walks, and a sacrifice fly. Crown scored one run of their own in the top half of the 4th inning. A walk and then stolen base by
Rhys Dewick moved him into scoring position. A single from
Tyler Bloom drove in the lone run of the game for the Polars. It wasn't until the bottom of the 7th and 8th that the Eagles scored runs and moved the score to 4-1 the final score.
Ryan Vondracek started and threw 5 solid innings as he only allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits.
Quentin Holmes pitched 1 inning and did not allow a hit.
Jacob Van Dam struck 3 batters and gave up 3 hits over 2 innings of play.
Crown totaled just 4 hits in game two as
Mason Brock,
Howie Hatton,
Rhys Dewick, and
Tyler Bloom all notched 1 hit apiece.
The Polars fall to 1-2 on the season and will return to play tomorrow Tuesday, March 12th with a 2:30pm (CST) contest against Hamline.
