Minneapolis, MN - The Polars softball team faced off with Augsburg on the road in the Auggie Dome Friday night and fell by scores of 4-3 and 11-3.
Abbie Carroll started in the circle for Crown and set down the first three batters she faced in order. The Polars scored the first run of the game following an error and a walk to take the 1-0 lead with the RBI being credited to
Maliya Martinez. Augsburg answered back and took the 2-1 lead at the end of 3 innings. It stayed there until
Katie Vaughan hit her first home run of the season in the 6th inning to take a 3-2 lead. A home run from the Auggies turned the tides and Crown fell by a score of 4-3.
Vaughan totaled 2 hits in 3 at bats leading the Crown offense. Carroll pitched all 6 innings and allowed just 4 earned runs as she struck out 7 batters.
Game two saw Augsburg jump out in front early and stayed out in front as the Polars struggled to get the bats going. Just 2 hits going into the 6th inning spelled trouble and the Polars fell 11-3 in 6 innings of play.Â
Sydney Gardner knocked in all three runs with a bases clearing double in the 6th inning. Gardner went 2-3 in her 3 plate appearances. Emmt Romportl started game two in the circle and pitched 1 inning. Carroll came in relief and pitched 3 innings only allowing 1 run on no hits or earned runs.
The Polars fall to 0-6 on the season and will continue their tough nonconference schedule with a double header scheduled for tomorrow March 2nd against UW-River Falls at 8:30am.
