Minneapolis, MN - The Polars Softball team faced off with UW-River Falls on Saturday morning and fell in both matchups by a score of 6-1 and 7-6.
Through 3 innings in game one the Falcons jumped out in front 2-0. In the bottom of the 4th inning a double from
Katie Vaughan drove in the first and only run of the game for the Polars. UW-River Falls stretched the lead from there on out extending it to 6-1 and that is where the game finished in the Falcons favor.
Crown totaled 5 hits in the first contest coming from 5 different Polars.
Abbie Carroll pitched all 7 innings and allowed 4 earned runs on 9 hits.Â
Game two saw Crown score 4 runs on 4 hits in the 3rd inning giving the Polars an early edge. These runs coming off of singles from
Aletheia Fisher,
Abbie Carroll, and
Emmy Romportl. A three run blast over the left field fence by
Sydney Gardner saw the Polars back in front with four innings to go. The 4-1 lead did not last long as the Falcons regained the lead 7-4 through 5 innings. In the bottom of the 7th inning the Polars found hits from
Katie Vaughan,
Abbey Underdahl, and
Maliya Martinez allowing Crown to cut the deficit to 7-6 and that's where it would finish 7-6 in favor of the Falcons.
Emmy Romportl totaled 2 hits on 4 at bats and 1 RBI.
Sydney Gardner hit a three run home run in the 3rd inning as she went 1-4. Romportl started and pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs. Carroll had a solid day on the mound going 3.1 innings and only allowing 2 hits with no earned runs.
The Polars fall to 0-8 on the season and will look for their first win of the season when they head down south to Florida for spring break with their first contest happening on March 11th at 12pm (CST).
