Mankato, Minn. - Crown headed to the Mankato dome for a two games on Saturday, one against UW-Stout and one against Saint Catherine University and fell in both matchups.
The Polars matched up with UW-Stout first and the game remained scoreless until the 4th when the Blue Devils pushed across two runs. Crown quickly responded in the bottom half of the 4th when Abby Underdahl tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaylee Fude. Stout took control of the game in the 5th which finished with them scoring 7 runs on 5 hits and 4 Polars errors. The Polars dropped the first game on Saturday afternoon to UW-Stout 16-3.
Crown totaled 5 hits as Abbey Underdahl, Catelyn Garza, Sydney Gardner, Maliya Martinez, and Kylei Abreo all totaled 1 hit each. Three Polars notched an RBI in the match up with Emmy Romportl, Gardner, and Kaylee Fude earning 1 each.
Game two saw the Wildcats gain a 6-0 lead through three innings. Crown was able to push across their first run of the game as Abreo hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Katie Vaughan to score. After two more runs from Saint Catherine the Polars offense started to come alive as they were able to score 4 runs on 3 hits. Singles from Romportl and Gardner followed by a Kaylee Fude double helped cut the Wildcats lead down to 9-5 at the end of the 5th inning. The comeback was halted there as the game finished 9-5 in the Wildcats favor.
Romportl and Abbie Carroll both pitched 3 innings in the contest with Carroll only allowing 1 earned run on three hits and 5 strikeouts. Fude led the Polars offense going 2-3 with 1 RBI. Catelyn Garza totaled 3 walks on 4 at bats.
The Polars fall to 0-4 this season and will next head to Minneapolis for doubleheader dome games on the road against Augsburg on Friday, March 1st.
