St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars Women's Basketball team faced off with the North Central Rams on Saturday and fell 66-60.
Crown got the early edge after buckets from
Mya Morris and
Hazel Serapio. The Polars were able to gain a five point lead 14-9 after a three point basket from
Elli Hemann with 3:42 to play in the first quarter. Crown finished the quarter ahead 17-11. The Rams answered in the second quarter battling back and taking the lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter. North Central held the slim lead at the half 31-28.
The third quarter was all Crown as they took the lead back with six minutes in the quarter and extended the the to four points 44-40 going into the fourth quarter. The Polars moved the lead up to nine points after Morris and
McKenzie Latzke both scored baskets. With 5:35 to play in the contest the Rams evened up the score at 51-51. Both teams would tie up the score two more times. With just under two minutes to play the Rams got to the free throw line 6 times and converted on all six and that would be the difference as Crown fell 66-60.
Latzke led the scoring for the Polars with 15 points.
Brayli Reimer followed shortly behind with 13 points and she led the team in rebounds with 8.
Sydney Cotten finished with 3 assists. Crown as a team shot 36.2% from the field going 21-58 and 23.1% from three point range going 6-26.
Crown falls to 2-15 on the season and 1-6 in UMAC play. The Polars will next head on the road on Saturday, January 27th to take on Minnesota Morris at 1pm.
