Women's Basketball Falls to Knights in Overtime 80-71

St. Bonifacius, MN – The Crown College Women's Basketball team faced off with the Martin Luther College Knights on Friday and fell 80-71 in overtime.

Right out of the gate the Polars went on a 6-0 run after buckets from Madison Morken, McKenzie Latzke, and Isabelle Sager. Crown stretched the lead out to eight but Martin Luther with a few buckets cutting the Polars lead to 13-10 with 2:36 to play in the first quarter. The Polars notched one more bucket before the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Knights even up the score at 19-19 with 6:34 to play in the half. From there on out the Polars went on a 11-4 run to end the half capped off with two three-point buckets from Mya Morris as Crown led 30-23 at the half.
In the third quarter the Knights started with a 13-1 run out of the break and took a three-point lead with 7:15 to go in the third. Both teams battled to earn the lead as Martin Luther held Crown to just 13 points in the quarter and held the lead 45-43 at the end of the quarter.

The fourth quarter was a battle as both teams took the lead twice in the quarter. Free throws from Hazel Serapio and a basket from the Knights evened the score at 66-66 with 17 seconds left. Shots from both teams were no good as the game went to overtime. Overtime favored the Knights as they outscored Crown 14-5 and Martin Luther took home the win 80-71.

Mya Morris led the scoring for Crown with 19 points. Isabelle Sager notched yet another double double as she scored 18 points and totaled 11 rebounds. McKenzie Latzke scored 11 points. Morris also recorded 5 steals.

The Polars fall to 2-12 on the season and 1-3 in UMAC play and will return to action tomorrow, Saturday January 13th at 3pm to take on the Bethany Lutheran Vikings.
