Polars Football Drops Season Opener to Pipers 45-13

Box Score St. Paul, MN - Polars football took on the Hamline Pipers on Saturday and fell by a score of 45-13.

The first quarter saw Hamline march down the field and find the end zone on their first two drives after two three and outs by the Polars giving the Pipers a 14-0 lead. With 2:03 remaining in the first quarter junior defensive back Rudy Criner cut in front of Charlie Wilson and intercepted a pass from Alec Ralph of the Pipers.

The second quarter was a stalemate early on with both teams not able to get much going on the offensive side of the ball. With 3:42 remaining in te second quarter the Polars were able to march down the field on a couple long runs from Jonathan Wamsley. The drive culminated with a 4th and long touchdown pass from Diego Narezo to Christoff Seneca for 29 yards. After a missed extra point the score set at 14-6. Hamline was able to answer right back with 1:46 to go as Alec Ralph connected with Pfenning-Wendt for 53 yards and a touchdown giving the Pipers the 21-6 lead. The Pipers scored once again after a punt from the Polars putting the score at 28-6 at half.

The Polars started with possession in the second half. A fumble from Crown gave the ball right back to Hamline and it would turn into a Pipers touchdown shortly after moving the score to 35-6 in the Pipers favor. The Pipers would score again and the Polars answered right back with a 62 yard touchdown run by Jonathan Wamsley putting the score at 42-13. A late field goal by the Pipers pushed the score to 45-13 and that is where it would finish.

Jonathan Wamsley highlighted the Crown offense rushing for 141 yards on just 12 carries an average of 11.8 yards per carry with a touchdown. Quarterback Diego Narezo threw for 119 yards and 1 touchdown which went to freshman Christoff Seneca. Seneca finished the day with 6 receptions for 93 yards to lead the Polars receiving efforts.

Rudy Criner led the defensive effort with a whopping 14 tackles and 11 of them being solo tackles. Criner also grabbed his first interception of the season. Jared Pardee totaled 8 tackles and both Jamoriyon Stephenson and Xavier Bueno both totaled 6. Dominic Candler finished with 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.

The Polars fall to 0-1 to start the year and will look to get back on track next Saturday, September 9th at 1pm where they will face off with the Simpson College Storm for the home opener.
