Mankato, MN - Crown College Baseball faced off with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in the first game of the UMAC tournament and came out on top 15-3.
The Polars came out firing on all cylinders from the first pitch. A single from
Cael Magill and a double from
Rhys Dewick notched the first run of the game. Volk-Specht retired six of the first eight batters in the first two innings. Hits from Magill, Dewick, and
Mason Brock drove in 4 runs for Crown in the top of the third inning giving the Polars a 5-0 lead. Two hits and some smart baseball score a run for the Yellowjackets in the bottom of the 5th inning. Ten hits and a
Matthew Shaugabay home run in the final four innings sealed the deal as
Jacob Van Dam and
Payton Clevenger shut the door and gave Crown the 15-3 win.
Volk-Specht took home the win, his 7th of the season as he struck out six batters through 6 innings of work not allowing an earned run. Brock, Magill, and
Howie Hatton led the Crown offense as Brock and Magill totaled 3 hits each. Hatton totaled 4 runs batted in and 2 hits in the contest as well.Â
The Polars put themselves in the drivers seat heading into day two as they will face the Bethany Lutheran Vikings at 4pm tomorrow May 12th with the winner heading to Championship Saturday.
