Mankato, MN - Polars Baseball faced off with a couple opponents on the weekend. Crown fell to Bethany Lutheran 15-0, defeated Superior 5-3, and fell to Bethany Lutheran 7-3.
Crown faced off with the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran on Friday and Saturday in one contest which was delayed by rain and then postponed due to the lights shutting off. Crown ended up falling 15-0 after only totaling 4 hits.
The Polars then faced off with the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior Sunday morning at 10am after a reschedule. A hit by pitch, walk, and a passed ball saw
Seth Betts score the first run of the game for Crown. Superior answered right back tying it up at one apiece. A double from
Ashton Long and an error scored the second run for Crown. A few walks and a sacrifice fly from
Howie Hatton moved the score to 3-1. A late run from the Yellowjackets and
Jacob Van Dam shut the door to close out the game for his 5th save of the year.Â
Ashton Long totaled 3 hits in the contest and
Jack Becker added 2 hits as well.
Ryan Vondracek started the game for Crown and pitched 6.1 innings only allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5 batters. The 3-1 win saw the Polars move to the UMAC Championship game needing to defeat Bethany Lutheran twice to win the tournament.
The Vikings started the out the game with a three run home run to take the lead.
Aidan Volk-Specht started on the mound and only pitched an inning as he was relieved by
Jacob Worley. A two run bottom of the 5th inning from the Vikings moved the score to 5-0. The top of the sixth inning saw Crown get a few baserunners. Two walks started the inning and a two run blast to deep right field from
Howie Hatton cut the score to 5-3. The Vikings added two more in the bottom of the 7th. Crown stranded two runners on base and the final score favored the Vikings 7-3.
Crown finished the year 22-20Â and 14-7 in UMAC play.Â
