Mankato, MN - The Crown College Baseball team faced off with the Bethany Lutheran Vikings in a doubleheader on Saturday and fell in both contests by scores of 14-11 and 13-6.
Crown jumped out to an early lead in the third inning after Bethany Lutheran scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Back to back doubles from
Mason Brock and
Tristen Ciarlo set the tone for the inning and Crown took the 3-2 lead. Crown gave up 4 runs in the middle innings as the Vikings took a 6-4 lead heading into the 7th inning. The inning was boosted by a 3 run home run from
Ashton Long, his sixth home run of the season and the Polars took the lead again with the score sitting at 8-6. The Vikings scored 8 runs in the eighth and Crown couldn't complete the comeback despite the 3 run ninth inning as the final score settled at 14-11 in favor of the Vikings.
Five Polars notched multiple hits in the contest.
Jefferson Barmoy started on the mound and was relieved after 4 innings.
Jacob Worley,
Tyler Bloom,
Jacob Van Dam, and
Drew Girtz all pitched with Van Dam taking the loss.
Game two saw a similar start to the game as the Polars fell behind 1-0 to start the game and scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning. These 4 runs cam from 4 total hits.
Drew Girtz and
Cael Magill singled while
Howie Hatton and
Jack Becker doubled. Bethnay Lutheran once again found the majority of their scoring in the late innings as they totaled 12 runs in the final three innings. The Polars scored two more runs off of a
Matthew Shaugabay Home Run but it was not enough as Crown fell 13-6.
Ryan Vondracek started the game pitching and threw six innings only allowing three earned runs.
Tyler Bloom,
Mason Brock, and
Jack Becker all took the hill with Brock taking the loss.
Crown falls to 18-14 on the season and 12-6 in UMAC play. They head up north to face off with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in the final conference series of the year with the first of the three game series on Friday at 2pm. The Polars currently sit in third place in conference play.
