St. Peter, MN - The Crown College Polars took down the North Central University Rams in both matchups in the doubleheader on Sunday by scores of 12-2 and 23-0.
In game one the scoring started early as the Polars had 5 runs come across to score in the first two innings on six hits and a walk. The score stayed there until Crown notched one more run in the fourth inning off of hits from
Cael Magill and
Seth Betts then a sacrifice fly from
Howie Hatton to give Crown a 6-0 lead. Crown scored three more in the sixth inning and after a run from the Rams the Polars finished the game envoking a ten run rule after three hits and three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Aidan Volk-Specht started on the rubber and pitched six innings of an almost spotless outing as he only gave up three total hits and struck out 8 batters.
Charlie Joyce,
Caleb Keen, and
Drew Girtz all came in to finish the game.
Mason Brock,
Seth Betts, and
Cael Magill notched 3 hits in the contest and
Howie Hatton was able to go 2-3 with a team leading 5 RBI's.Â
Crown's offense was even more explosive in the second contest as the Polars scored 14 runs in the first three innings. Crown scored runs in every inning of the game with the final score ending at 23-0 after with the ten run rule in effect at the end of seven innings.
Howie Hatton went 3-3 in the contest as four other Polars notched multi-hit efforts. Those being the likes of
Seth Betts,
Jack Becker,
Will Cantrell, and
Drew Girtz.
Ryan Vondracek started o nthe mound and pitched 5 innings while striking out four batters and only allowing five hits.
The Polars move to 15-11 on the season and 9-3 in UMAC play which puts them a half of a game back of the UMAC leading Bethany Lutheran Vikings. Crown heads to Martin Luther for a doubleheader with the Knights after a reschedule with games set to take place at 2pm and 4pm in New Ulm, MN.
