Women's Basketball Defeats Lions, Moves on to NCCAA North Region Final

Dubuque, IA - The Crown College Women's Basketball Team faced off with the Trinity Bible College Lions in the NCCAA North Regional Tournament coming out on top 76-66. 

Trinity jumped out in front to start the contest with the Lions going on an 8-0 with just over 5 minutes to play in the first quarter. Crown would answer right back with multiple buckets from Madi Hecox and Melanie Delestrez to jump back out in front. The Polars finished the quarter up by five with the score settling at 21-15 Polars in the lead. The second quarter was all Lions with Trinity taking back the lead going into the half.

The start of the second half saw a few lead changes with both teams going on runs of their own. Hecox and Isabelle Sager led the offensive charge in the third quarter bringing the Polars up by one 52-51 going into the final ten minutes of play. The fourth quarter saw Crown hold onto a slim lead as the game neared the final minutes Crown led by three with 2 minutes to play. Buckets Shauna Thompson and free throws from McKenzie Latzke and Madi Hecox ended the game with Crown on top.

Hecox and Latzke led the scoring for Crown with a combined 41 points. Melanie Delestrez shortly followed with 9 points. Shauna Thompson, Amy Martius, and Isabelle Sager all totaled 6 rebounds to lead the rebounding for the Polars. Martius also added 4 steals for a solid outing.

Crown as a team shot 40.6% going 28-69 from the field and 33.3% from three point range going 8-24. Crown also scored 32 points in the paint.

The Polars Women move on to the NCCAA North Region Final on Saturday in which they will be taking on the North Central University Rams at 2pm.
