Dubuque, IA - The Crown College Polars Women's Basketball team faced off with the North Central Rams on Saturday for the NCCAA North Regional final losing by a score of 56-53.
The start of the game was even with both teams scoring 11 in the first quarter. The start of the second changed the tide of the game with Crown taking a six point lead after buckets from
Shauna Thompson and
Madi Hecox. The Polars women held the lead with 2:25 to go as Crown stretched the lead to seven. The score settled at 28-20 at the end of the first half.
The start of the second half saw Crown score the first few points pushing the lead to eleven with 8:14 to play. North Central pushed right back and would take their first lead of the game since the beginning of the first quarter. A back and forth fourth quarter saw four lead changes with the game coming down to the final minutes. The Polars had a chance to tie it up in the final seconds but were unable to with the score finishing 56-53 in the Rams favor.
Four Polars scored double digits with
Amy Martius scoring 12 points while
Madi Hecox,
Isabelle Sager, and
Shauna Thompson scored 11 points.
Hayla Flowers led the way on the boards tallying 10 rebounds while Hecox and Sager both added 6 rebounds. Thompson also added 5 steals to lead the defensive effort.
The Crown Polars Women's Basketball Team finishes the season 14-11 and 7-7 in UMAC play, both NCAA era program records. It was also the first ever NCAA era winning season for the program.
