Baseball Ends Florida Trip Dropping Double Header to Coe

Auburndale, FL - The Crown College Baseball team faced off with Coe College on Friday night in their final games in Florida falling in both contests by scores of 11-4 and 4-3.

The first of two games saw Coe get the early lead scoring three runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, and four runs in the third inning. Crown scored their first runs of the game after Seth Betts hit his first home run of the season to drive in Cael Magill to cut the Coe lead to 9-2. Coe continued to add a few more runs in the late goings pushing the lead to 11-2. Crown notched a few more runs in the 7th innings off of singles from Rhys Dewick and Blake Boggs, but it would not be enough as Crown fell 11-4 in game one.

Rhys Dewick and Cael Magill both had multi-hit games for Crown with Magill going 2-4 and Dewick going 3-4. Ryan Vondracek started on the mound for Crown and he pitched 2.1 innings and gave up 5 earned runs. Blake Cramer, Drew Girtz, and Noah Neal finished the game for Crown with a combined 4.2 innings pitched, one earned run allowed, and 8 strikeouts.

Early in game two Crown notched the first run of the game off of an error to take a 1-0 lead. That lead however was short lived as a home run and triple agve Coe the 4-1 lead. A Cael Magill single and a Seth Betts double drove in the second run of the game for Crown in the top of the third inning and an error gave Crown their third run to put the score at 4-3 in Coe's favor. The score would end at 4-3 with only 4 total hits between the two teams in the final four innings.

Cael Magill led the offensive effort for Crown in game two going 2-2 and adding 2 walks. Jacob Van Dam pitched 6 innings for a complete game only allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits striking out 7 batters in the process.

The Polars fall to 6-6 on the season and take a short break before returning back to the action on Wednesday, March 22nd at 2pm on the road in St. Peter, Minnesota as Crown takes on Gustavus Adolphus in their first games back in Minnesota.
