Collegeville, MN - The Crown College Polars Baseball team faced off with the Saint John's Johnnies and fell by a score of 12-9.
Saint John's struck pay dirt first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. A
Seth Betts single followed by an error and a stolen base moved him into scoring position. A single from
Mason Brock drove in Betts to put the score at 2-1 with the Johnnies out in front. Crown would even the score up at 2 apiece after singles from
Howie Hatton and
Seth Betts in the third inning. Saint John's rattled off 8 unanswered runs through the next four innings to put the score at 10-2.
Cael Magill notched a home run in the top of the 7th to cut the score to 10-3. A six run inning for Crown in the top of the 8th inning saw 6 hits including an
Ashton Long home run cut the led to 10-9. The Polars would fall by a score of 12-9.
Seth Betts and
Howie Hatton led the way offensively with 3 hits each, combining for 3 runs and 2 runs batted in.
Jack Becker and
Mason Brock both reached base twice with hits.
Jefferson Barmoy started the game on the mound for the Polars totaling 4 innings pitched and 4 strikeouts. Six other players pitched for Crown. Those including
Charlie Joyce,
Brett Sutterby,
Drew Girtz,
Danny Gallardo,
Noah Neal, and
Tyler Bloom.
The Polars fall under .500 for the first time this season falling to 6-7 on the year. The Polars will take on the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars in the UMAC opener at a neutral site in St. Peter, MN on Tuesday, March 28th at 11am.
