Auburndale, FL - The Polars Baseball team faced off with Southern Maine on Wednesday and came out on top 5-3.
The first four innings neither team would score with both teams scoreless through 4 innings. Crown left 7 runners on base through the first four innings. The Polars scored the first run of the game off of a
Howie Hatton single and an
Ashton Long single to put Crown up 1-0. The Polars added onto the one to zero lead scoring three runs off of five hits in the top of the seventh inning. Long singled to drive in both Hatton and
Cael Magill. A
Rhys Dewick ground out scored the third run of the inning and Crown took the 4-0 lead. The Huskies scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning and Crown finished the game on top 5-3.
Ashton Long went 4-5 on the day with 3 runs batted in.
Howie Hatton went 3-4 on the day with a home run and three runs scored
Seth Betts also went 2-5 with a double.
Aidan Volk-Specht pitched six innings for Crown only allowing one earned run and four total hits while striking out 7 batters.
Brett Sutterby and
Tyler Bloom pitched a combined 2 innings and
Mason Brock took the mound in the 9th for his first save of the year.
Crown moves to 6-3 on the season and returns to action tomorrow March 16th taking on Wheaton College (Mass.) at 4:30pm.
