Superior, WI - The Crown College Polars faced off with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday ultimately falling 62-49.
The Crown women fell behind early with Superior scoring five out of the first 7 buckets. Crown took their first lead of the game since the first bucket with 2:47 to go as Madi Hecox and Shauna Thompson found baskets. The rest of the quarter finished pretty even with Superior pulling ahead 15-13 to end the quarter. The second quarter saw Crown take the lead and hold it at the end of the half with Crown leading 25-22 at half.
The third quarter turned the tide of the game with the Yellowjackets totaling 24 point in the third more than the whole first half. Crown only managed to put 7 points in the third. The fourth quarter saw Crown take a slight edge but unable regain the lost ground from the third and the Polars fell 62-49 effectively ending the Polars UMAC playoff hopes.
McKenzie Latzke scored 13 points to lead the offensive attack with Madi Hecox scoring 11 of her own. Hayla Flowers totaled 8 rebounds to lead the charge on the glass.
Crown as a team shot 38.8% from the field going 19-49 and 31.6% from three point range going 6-19.
The Polars move to 12-10 on the season and 7-7 in UMAC play. They fell just short of the UMAC playoffs and will compete in the NCCAA regional tournament with hopes to pursue a NCCAA national title.
