Ashland, WI - The Crown College Polars faced off with the Northland College Lumberjacks on Friday ultimately ending up on top 68-56.
The Crown women fell behind early with Northland scoring the first 11 points unanswered. Madi Hecox responded by scoring 13 of the Polars 16 points in the first quarter. The second quarter turned out to be just as even as the first with the half ending at 37-35 in Northland's favor.
The third quarter was a turning point in the game with Crown taking their first lead since early the first quarter. Yet the Lumberjills stuck around and fought right back at the end of the quarter with the score tallying 51-49, Polars with the edge at the break. The fourth quarter saw Crown pull ahead and top Northland by a score of 68-56.
Madi Hecox scored 22 points to lead the offensive attack. Isabelle Sager scored 13 points and McKenzie Latzke scored 12. Hayla Flowers grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Crown.
Crown as a team shot 47.1% from the field going 24-51 and 45% from three point range going 9-20.
The Polars move to 12-9 on the season and 7-6 in UMAC play. They return to action tomorrow facing off with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets at 4:45pm for a chance to snag the fourth spot in the UMAC playoffs.
