Ashland, WI - The Polars Women's Basketball team faced off with the Northland College Lumberjills on Saturday and won by a score of 68-42.
Both teams traded buckets early on as the Polars gained the lead at 10-9. Seven lead changes in the first quarter saw Crown push out in front 16-14. The Polars gained an edge in the second quarter as Crown stretched the lead to ten points over a seven minute span. In just the remaining few minutes of the half Crown scored 9 unanswered points to take the 39-22 halftime lead.
Crown held Northland to just 7 points in the entirety of the third quarter. The Polars added seventeen in the third quarter stretching the lead to the largest of the day out in front 56-29. An even fourth quarter saw Northland score 13 compared to 12 points from Crown, but the Polars came out on top 68-42.
Isabelle Sager dominated on the boards as she pulled down 17 rebounds an NCAA-era school record for rebounds in a game. The previous record was 16 rebounds by Damonyka Roberts in 2020. Sager also notched a career high 19 points.
McKenzie Latzke scored 16 points on the day and
Raelin Smalley also scored double digits with 13 points.
Hazel Serapio, Smalley, and Latzke all totaled 3 steals in the contest. The Polars shot 30.6% from the field and 19.4% from three point range. Crown totaled 29 points off of turnovers and 26 points in the paint.
Crown moves to 1-1 in UMAC play and will head to Fayette, Iowa next weekend for an exhibition match up with Upper Iowa.
