Ashland, WI - The Polars Men's Basketball team faced off with the Northland College Lumberjacks on the road and came out on top 94-78.
Tyrus Buckner got Crown out in front from the tip as he made his first three baskets in the paint. Triples from
Jacob Van Dam and
Cade Carroll stretched Crown's lead to 12-2. Nearing the ten minute mark Northland inched back into the game and cut the Polars lead to just 1 with the score sitting at 18-17Â with 10:43 on the clock. A four point play and two made free throws from the Lumberjacks gave them their first lead of the game with the score at 29-27 with under seven minutes to play in the half. Crown managed to regained command of the game with a 17-7 run to end the half as the score sat at 44-36 in the Polars favor.Â
Buckets from Van Dam, Carroll, Buckner, and
Jacob Masek added to the Crown lead in the early goings of the second half as with 12:35 to play Crown held an 18 point lead with the score at 61-43. Crown maintained a healthy lead for the majority of the half. With just over thirty seconds remaining the Lumberjacks defensive pressure contributed to their offensive run leaving the lead at just 11 points. The Polars held on and took home a 94-78 win.
Carroll notched a season high 32 points in the contest going 11-15 from the field and 5-6 from three point range. Buckner managed 24 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the year.
Carter Behne totaled 9 points and
Levi Royston totaled 8 points on the night.
Jacob Masek finished with 4 assists.
The Polars move to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in UMAC play as they swept the opening weekend of conference play. Crown will next travel to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin for a non-conference neutral site matchup with Webster University on Saturday, December 16th at 6pm.
