Carroll's 38 Point Performance Leads Polars Past Cobbers in Last Game of 2023

St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars Men's Basketball team faced off with the Concordia (MN) Cobbers in their final contest of 2023 and took home the 94-84 win.

The first four minutes saw Concordia leap out in front 9-4, but the Polars evened things up at eleven with 14:56 to play in the first half. The Cobbers jumped out in front once again and maintained that lead for the majority of the half. With 5:43 to play in the first half Crown took their first lead of the game after Cade Carroll knocked down three straight jumpers. The Polars held a slim lead going into the break at 41-38.

The second half saw back and forth action throughout as the lead changed eight times in the first five minutes. Crown extended their lead to eleven points as the Polars held the 62-51 lead with thirteen minutes to play. From that point on the Polars kept the lead over ten points for almost the entirety of the remaining time and the Polars held off the Cobbers by a score of 94-84.

Cade Carroll once again brought an excellent performance as he totaled 38 points just two points shy of the school record set by Tim Wendel in 2018 and Seth Moan in 2015. Carroll also finished with a team high 8 rebounds in the contest. Tyrus Buckner scored 18 points and totaled 6 rebounds. Jacob Van Dam also totaled double digit points with 11. 

Micah Ladd led the team in assists with 5 assists in the game. Jacob Masek recorded three steals to lead the Crown men. As a team the Polars shot 52.5% from the field going 32-61 and 48% from downtown.

Crown moves to 9-3 on the season and will next head to play an exhibition with Winona State on Tuesday January 2nd on the road at 7pm before returning to UMAC play with a contest against Minnesota Morris on January 6th.
