Polars Stifled in 2nd Half, Football Drops Road Game to Northwestern 47-23

St. Paul, MN - The Polars football team faced off with the Northwestern Eagles on the road on Saturday and fell 47-23.

The Polars got the ball first and punted the ball away after a three and out. After an interception from Logan Disabella the Polars punted on the second drive of the contest. Northwestern would march down the field in 11 plays but the Polars defense came up with the hold late in the drive and the Eagles settled for a field goal. Crown followed that with a touchdown on the next drive on a 9 yard pass from Diego Narezo to Christoff Seneca. The Eagles this time would answer to start the second quarter with a 7 play drive capped off with a touchdown to put the score at 10-6 Eagles out in front. Following a UNW turnover the Polars marched down with a drive ending a passing touchdown from Narezo to Anfield this time. After an Eagles turnover, Brock Knick would connect on a 41 yard field goal to extend Crown's lead to 16-10 and that is where the half finished. The Polars defense forced 4 turnovers in the first half with 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles.

Following two Crown fumbles to start third quarter the Eagles put points up on the board taking the lead back and pushing the score to 27-16. The second half was all Eagles as the Northwestern team scored 37 unanswered points. The Polars would turn the ball over two more times before finding the end zone on a Terry Warner 5 yard touchdown run with 14 seconds remaining to put the score at 47-23 in UNW's favor.

Narezo went 37-64 passing with 327 passing yards and 2 touchdowns along with 2 interceptions. Caleb Freelen led the rushing for Crown with 19 net rushing yards. Both Anfield and Warner totaled more than 10 receptions with Anfield finishing with 147 yards receiving and 1 receiving touchdown. 

Defensively Gabe Banks led the wya with 10 total tackles and an interception. Junior Doe finished with 9 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. Rudy Criner ended with 8 tackles and 7 solo tackles as well as 3 tackles for loss. 

The Polars fall to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in UMAC play and will have a bye week before returning home for a senior day matchup with the Martin Luther Knights at 1pm on October 21st.
