Carroll Scores 30, Polars Fall to Vikings in Double Overtime Thriller

Mankato, Minn. – The Crown Men's Basketball team faced off with the Bethany Lutheran Vikings on Saturday falling by a score of 110-105.

The first half started out with Crown jumping out to an early 19-12 lead just seven minutes into the game following a couple of threes from Cade Carroll. Bethany stormed right back into the game after Crown's early buckets. Crown held on to their slim lead throughout the half never trailing from then on. The Polars finished the first half ahead of the Vikings 48-43 at half.

The second half saw Bethany inch back and take their first lead of the game. Yet the Polars surged back going up 64-60 after three consecutive threes with 13 minutes to go in the game. Great shooting was the story of the second half, with Crown pushing the score to 78-72 with eight minutes to go. Cade Carroll led the charge knocking down multiple threes. The Polars stretched the lead to 10 but the Vikings climbed back tying it up at 86 apiece with 2:16 to go. Even play to end the game after an opportunity to win the game on both sides unsuccessful, pushing the game to overtime.

Overtime saw multiple Polars knocking down shots yet the Vikings stayed neck and neck. The score 98-98 with twenty-five seconds to go saw Crown have the opportunity to score and win once again but a missed three from Carroll ended the first overtime tied at 98. The second overtime saw Bethany Lutheran take the lead with a minute to go and Crown could not climb back after missing a game tying three ultimately falling by a score of 110-105.

Cade Carroll led the scoring for Crown with 30 points on the day. Seth Royston shortly followed with 24 points and Jacob Van Dam notched 18 points. Royston dominated the boards with 13 for a Double-Double. Both Royston and Van Dam added 3 steals in the matchup.

The Polars shot 44.8% from the field going 39-87 and 50% from three-point range going 14-28. Crown totaled 41 rebounds compared to 59 for Bethany.

Crown falls to 11-7 on the season and 2-5 in UMAC play and will head to Minnesota-Morris taking on the Cougars on Saturday, January 28th at 3pm.
