St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Polars took on the Northland College Lumberjills on Saturday, finishing on top by a score of 73-62.
The Polars started slow out of the gate going down by nine late in the first quarter. Two late first quarter buckets from
Shauna Thompson and
Madi Hecox cut the Lumberjills lead to five at the end of the quarter. Crown's offense came alive in the second quarter, outscoring Northland 17-9 and pulling out to a three-point lead to end the half up 32-29.
The second half saw Crown lead the entire time with the Polars offense outlasting Northland. Crown pushed the lead to 9 with six minutes to go and held off the Lumberjills ending on top 73-62 for the fifth straight win.
Madi Hecox led the scoring with 24 points. Four other Polars topped 10 points.
Shauna Thompson scored 15,
Amy Martius scored 12 points,
Isabelle Sager scored 11 points, and
McKenzie Latzke scored 10 points.
Martius and Sager led the rebounding with Martius grabbing 9 rebounds and Sager with 8. Hecox totaled 6 assists to lead Crown. The Polars as a team shot 43.1% from the field and 30.4% from three point range.
Crown moves to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in UMAC play. They return to action on the road on January 20
th at 7:15pm versus Martin Luther.
