St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Polars faced off with the Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets on Friday, finishing on top by a score of 56-49.
The first quarter saw back and forth action with the lead changing six times.
Shauna Thompson knocked down a three in the last 30 seconds and the Polars would take the lead going into the second quarter 17-16. The first few minutes of the second quarter went Superior's way, with the Yellowjackets taking the lead going up 25-21. Once again Crown took the lead towards the end of the quarter with a couple of buckets from
Madi Hecox and
Amy Martius with the first half ending 29-26 in the Polars favor.
The third quarter saw Crown extend that three-point lead to six as buckets for
Isabelle Sager,
McKenzie Latzke, and Hecox put Crown out in front 41-35. Crown stretched their lead to 12 after a few quick buckets to start the quarter and the Yellowjackets could not keep up, Crown coming out on top 56-49.
Hecox led the scoring for Crown with 18. Following Hecox, five Polars players totaled over 6 points. Sager had a monster night on the boards once again with 13, Hecox added 9 rebounds as well.
Crown shot 40.4% from the field going 23-57 and 21.7% from three-point range going 5-23.
The Polars women move to 7-5 on the season and 2-2 in UMAC play and return home Saturday, January 14
th at 4:45pm to take on the Northland College Lumberjills.
