St. Paul, Minn. – The Crown volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against non-conference opponents at Macalester's tournament on Friday night, falling to Carleton and Luther. Both matches ended 3-0.
In the first match, Crown took on MIAC opponent Carleton. The Knights prevailed with set scores of 25-14, 25-11, and 25-16. Crown totaled 19 kills and a .025 hitting percentage while Carleton recorded 36 kills and a .270 hitting percentage.
The Polars were led by
Jocelynn Shockley's six kills, while
Samantha Swanson and
Shaelyn McNeill each recorded six assists. The team was led in digs by
Emma Holey with eight and
Sage Johnston had a team-high two aces.
Game two of the evening saw the Polars take on American Rivers Conference opponent Luther College.
The Polars were swept in this one as well, losing 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.
Crown saw an uptick in attack, totaling 25 kills in the match, but couldn't keep up with 38 kills by the Norse. Shockley,
Ashley Earick, and
Hailey Klein each led the way with five kills while Swanson recorded a team leading nine assists. Johnston reached double-digits with 13 digs to anchor the defense.
The Polars will persist at Macalester's tournament, taking on UW-River Falls and Nebraska Wesleyan as part of a very busy day for Crown athletics on Saturday.
