Volleyball Splits Four Matches at Home Tournament

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown volleyball team hosted a tournament this weekend with four other NCCAA teams from the region.  Oak Hills Christian College, Trinity Bible College, Faith Baptist Bible College, and Calvary Bible College all were on campus this weekend for sets of four matches.

Crown opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Oak Hills before falling to Calvary Bible and Faith Baptist by matching 3-1 scores.  The Polars rebounded in their final game of the weekend, defeating Trinity Bible 3-1.

Crown was dominant in their opening win over Oak Hills, allowing just 24 total points across three sets.  Hailey Klein led Crown with seven kills and Gracie Vanbebber and Shaelyn Mcneill each had eight assists.

The next two matches were tight ones, with Crown dropping the first set and rebounding to win the second on both occasions.  Unfortunately, the Polar's opponents were able to rally to win both matches.

Jocelynn Shockley had a team-best 12 kills against Calvary while Mcneill's 12 assists also led the way.  Sage Johnston had an impressive 17 digs to lead the charge defensively.

The attacking stats in the match were nearly identical, but a 14-6 advantage in service aces for the visitors proved to be the difference.
Against the Eagles of Faith Baptist, just five points separated the two teams over four sets, but once again, Crown was beaten 3-1.
Klein led the team with 11 kills and Mcneill once again topped the group with 16 assists.  Shockley had a massive 19 digs in the contest.
Crown got back to winning ways in the finale, defeating Trinity by a 3-1 score line.  The Polars reversed the trend from the two previous losses, rallying to win the final two sets of this one.

Crown was much more efficient in attack, recording 35 kills and 18 attacking errors while Trinity committed 28 attacking errors with 36 kills.

Ashley Earick had a team-high eight kills, three aces, and two blocks in an excellent all-around performance.  Mcneill's 12 assists and Johnston's 17 digs led the Polars in those categories.

Crown will now open their conference schedule with a tough match away to nationally ranked Northwestern (Minn.) next Tuesday.
