Northfield, Minn. – The Carleton Knights came out of the gates quickly, scoring 35 first half points en route to an 84-20 victory of the traveling Crown Polars on Saturday. The Knights racked up 685 yards of total offense and scored 12 touchdowns in the win.
A trio of rushing touchdowns staked the home team to an early 21-0 lead before Crown's
Malek Folston returned a kickoff 81 yards for Crown's first score of the game. The return was just seven yards shy of Crown's NCAA-era record for longest kickoff return. Quarterback
Elijah Odom rushed in the two-point conversion.
Carleton responded with another rushing touchdown and their first passing touchdown of the day to take a 35-8 lead into the second quarter. Odom got the Polars into the endzone once again with a 14-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but couldn't convert a rushing attempt going for two and Crown trailed 35-14.
Carleton again responded swiftly, scoring the next three touchdowns to take a commanding 56-14 lead into halftime.
The Knights notched the next three scores coming out of the half as well before new quarterback
Diego Narezo found
Terry Warner for a 35 yard score. The two-point conversion failed to make the score 77-20. The hosts would add a single touchdown in the fourth quarter for the only score of the final period.
Crown was led offensively by Warner who had six grabs for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Josh Wallace gained 39 yards on four carries, highlighted by a 34 yard run and caught six balls for 24 yards with a long of 15.
Michael Downs also caught six balls for the Polars.
Narezo had 71 yards through the air, completing nine of 14 passes with the touchdown and one interception. Odom went 13-27 for 52 yard and a pick and gained 24 yards on the ground with the touchdown.
Defensively,
Dametre Forshee led the Polars with 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack.
Folston had 12 tackles to go with his long kickoff return and
Rudy Criner also reached double-digits with eleven tackles.
Isaac Herron had two pass break-ups.
Crown is home next Saturday for a homecoming matchup with former UMAC member St. Scholastica. Kickoff is set for 1p.m.
