Baseball Invokes Run-Rule in Rout of Morris

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – Due to heavy rains, the Minnesota Morris Cougars "hosted" the Crown College Storm baseball team at Crown's new home-field, Missile Park, on Wednesday.  The Storm, playing as the visitors on the scoreboard, felt right at home, scoring 15 runs on their way to a 15-3 victory that was called after seven innings.

Eric Newman earned the win, going five innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks, striking out nine.  Brett Sutterby, quickly becoming one of the team's most trusted arms out of the bullpen, finished the game, striking out five over two scoreless innings.

As is often the case, the Storm offense stole the show as six different players homered for Crown.

Kyle Schroedle, who is beginning to find the form that made him one of the best power hitters in the country last season, started things off with a bomb in the first.  Seth Betts, who went 5-5 on the day with five RBI and four runs scored, hit a three-run blast in the second.  In the third, Alejandro Molina, Mason Brock, and Ashton Long all went deep, and Blake Boggs finished off the home run barrage with a solo shot in the fourth.

Morris went deep for their three runs in the bottom half of the fourth, but Crown kept their foot on the gas and the game was called after seven innings due to the ten-run rule.

In all, Crown collected 20 hits, eleven of them going for extra-bases.

Crown will look to continue their hot streak against a Northland team that will be forced to travel to St. Boni for a three game set that was originally scheduled for Ashland, Wisconsin.  Field conditions have forced these games to be played at Crown's new home as well so the Storm will host Northland this weekend, first pitch of that series will be at 3:00 PM on Friday from Missile Park.
