Davenport, FL – The baseball team looked sharp in game 1 vs Gordon College, showing off all phases of the game in dominating 11-1 fashion. The offense started fast for the Storm as
Kyle Schroedle got the scoring started with a two-run shot to left field.
Ashton Long then followed that up with a homerun of his own, a solo bomb to the opposite field to extend the lead to 3-0.
Gordon would answer back with a run in the bottom of the 3
rd before a
Mason Brock homerun in the top of the 4
th extended the lead back to 3. From there it was all Crown, they scored 6 times in the 6
th inning to take a commanding 10-1 lead. In the inning Schroedle doubled down the left-field line, driving in 2. Brock followed that up with a double of his own that scored 2 more.
Blake Boggs and
Alejandro Molina knocked in 1 run each to pad the lead even further.
On the mound
Jacob Crowley was great, going for 5 strong innings while only giving up 1 earned run and striking out 4.
Caleb Keen then came on in relief and gave Crown 2 really strong scoreless innings out of the pen to help cap off an 11-1 win in game 1.
Game 2 however was a different story; Gordon took an early 1-0 lead in the 1
st inning on an RBI single up the middle. Crown would answer back in the 2
nd on a safety squeeze for an RBI by
Chad Herrera. Crown would take the lead in the 3
rd inning when
Seth Betts stole home and that was unfortunately the one and only time Crown would lead during game 2.
In the 5
th inning Gordon took the lead 3-2, before extending it to 5-2 in the 5
th and then 7-2 in the 7
th.
Rhys Dewick drove in 2 with a 2 RBI single in the 6
th but it was just a bit too late for Crown as Gordon would go on to take game 2 by a score of 7-4.
Crown will play again tomorrow, when they take on Cornell College at 1:30 CST.
