Davenport, FL - The Crown baseball team wrapped up their Florida trip on Friday with two wins, the first over Oberlin by a score of 12-1 and the second game over Lancaster by a score of 14-7.
The first game against Oberlin saw Crown score early and often, they scored runs in the first 5 innings to build a 12-0 lead through 5. In the first inning the scoring was kicked off by
Rhys Dewick who drove in 2 with a single up the middle to give Crown an early 2-0 lead. In the 2nd inning,
Kyle Schroedle hit a home run to deep left center that drove in 3 runs to give Crown a 5-0 cushion. In the 4th inning,
Mason Brock continued the offensive show with a solo home run and then
Alejandro Molina hit his first homerun of his young Crown career with a 2 run shot down the left field line to build the lead to 10-0. Crown would tack a couple more runs on to make it 12-0 before Oberlin scored in the 5th to make it 12-1.
Pitching was fantastic for Crown in game 1,
Eric Newman went 5 strong innings, giving up just 1 earned run and striking out 9.
Danny Gallardo and
Henry Reiley came on in relief to close the deal for Crown and the game ended after 7 innings due to the 10 run rule. The win moved Crown to 6-4 on the year.
Game 2 was more of a battle but the offense showed out yet again, scoring 14 runs en route to a 14-7 win over Lancaster Bible College. Multiple players had huge offensive performances for Crown including
Seth Betts, who hit for the cycle while driving in 3 runs.
Devyn Wilson-Cowan also had a big night, going 4-5 with two triples and finishing with 4 RBI.
Kyle Schroedle also drove in 3 runs including a triple and a homerun.
On the mound
Dylan Balfour got the win, going 6 strong innings and giving up just 1 earned run.
Jacob Van Dam and
Mason Brock gave strong performances out of the bullpen to close it out and Crown took the final game of the Florida trip 14-7.Â
The win puts Crown's winning streak at 4 and a 7-4 record on the year.
