St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Polars women's basketball team faced off with the Trinity Bible College Lions at home ultimately coming out on top 67-52.
Crown jumped out to an early lead with a 10-3 run and finished out in front after a solid first quarter effort to make it 17-9. The story of the first half was
Madi Hecox, Totaling 21 points and knocking down five threes to give the Polars a 39-22 lead at the half.
In the second half the Lions started to creep back into the game as the Polars scored 16 points in the third compared to 19 from the Lions. With 2:42 to go the Lions cut the Polars lead to 9. A few clutch buckets from
Hayla Flowers and
Melanie Delestrez pushed the Polars lead to 13 and the Polars finished out on top.
Crown was led by Hecox who scored 27 points going 10-15 from the field and 5-7 from three. Hecox also added 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
Isabelle Sager had a career day scoring 13 points and adding 10 rebounds for her first career double double.
The Polars shot 39.4% from the field and 32.3% from three-point range. Crown totaled 12 steals and scored 21 points off of turnovers on the evening.
The Crown Women will head on the road this Friday for their first UMAC matchup this season at Northwestern, December 9
th at 7:15pm.
