Crown Women Give Minnesota Morris Scare on the Road

Morris, Minn. – The Crown women's basketball team put a scare into the host Cougars on Saturday afternoon, sticking with the home team through much of the game and holding a lead as late as the 58 second mark of the third quarter.  The Cougars pulled away late, however, stretching their fourth quarter lead to as many as 13 points before winning by a final score of 75-64.

The Storm played a tightened rotation of just six players on Saturday, and got double-digit scoring performances form Dominique Urbina (19), McKenzie Latzke (17), and Shauna Thompson (10).  Madison Morken had eight points and hit double-digits with eleven rebounds and Amy Martius contributed seven points, five rebounds, and four assists while Destiny Ray came off the bench with three points.

After trailing 38-29 at the half, Crown outscored the Cougars 22-18 in the third quarter, a period highlighted by a 9-0 Crown run to tie the game at 40 apiece.  Twice the Storm hit threes to take momentary one-point leads, but Morris closed on a 6-0 run and never again relinquished the lead.

The much-improved Crown women head back out on the road next weekend for a pair of UMAC games against UW-Superior and Northland.
