Morris, Minn. – The Crown men's basketball got off to a sluggish start in their third UMAC contest of the season, trailing the Cougars of Minnesota Morris 39-27 at halftime. Crown was led by 18 points from
Cade Carroll in the half, but got just four made field goals from the rest of the squad to trail by 12 at the break.
Crown started the second half well offensively but couldn't get the stops to match on the defensive end and remained down 12 as both teams scored eight points in the first two minutes of the half.
The Cougars stretched their lead to 13 with 15:32 remaining before a 13-2 run brought the Storm within a basket at 56-54. Crown would be unable to get any closer, three times cutting the Cougar lead to three points but unable to get all the way back.
The Storm were led by a season-high 28 from Carroll, who added seven rebounds.
Seth Royston had a double-double with ten points and ten boards, adding five blocks, and
Jacob Van Dam and
Micah Ladd each added eleven, the latter dishing out eight assists.
The loss drops the Storm to 1-2 in UMAC play, making this coming weekend's road trip to take on UW-Superior and Northland an important one as the playoff picture continues to develop in what promises to be a very tight conference race.
