St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Storm women jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the first quarter against the visiting Martin Luther Knights on Friday, but couldn't hold onto their early lead as the Knights came from behind to win 50-48 in a tough UMAC contest.
Crown hit six of their first ten shots in building their early lead, but were only able to convert on 13 of their final 53 attempts as MLC crept back into the game. By halftime, the Knights had closed the gap to just two points at 27-25.
The second half was a grind-it-out affair for both teams and Crown held a slim one-point lead at 43-42 going into the fourth quarter. The second half had ten lead changes and eight instances of the score being tied as the game stayed close throughout.
The final period would see only 13 points scored between the two teams, with Martin Luther edging Crown 8-5 in the final ten minutes.
McKenzie Latzke once again led the Storm, scoring 19 points on 8-17 shooting and a 3-8 mark from beyond the arc.
Dominique Urbina also hit double-figures with 11 points and
Shauna Thompson grabbed ten rebounds.
Crown will look to bounce back on Saturday with a tough test against visiting Bethany Lutheran who currently sit at 5-0 and in sole possession of first place in the conference.
