NEW ULM, Minn. --- Crown College Baseball continued their hot-streak on Tuesday, sweeping the Martin Luther Knights 11-0 in both contests. As opposed to their normal power, at bay due to strong winds, the Storm found a new way to create offense, stealing 20 bases between the two games. The eleven runs in both contests were unneeded with the incredible pitching performance by the combinations of Eric Newman/Caleb Keen and Nick Schroedle/Bryan Bullock. The four pitchers allowed only seven total hits across two games and walked a combined two batters in 14 complete innings. The Storm are now 6-2 in conference play, sitting second in the league.
Leading Crown offensively was Mason Brock, Seth Betts, and Chad Herrera, who all had at least one game with three hits. The first-year shortstop Brock hit his sixth home run of the season, an impressive feat considering the pre-2021 single-season record was four.
Senior Eric Newman started game one on the mound and earned his fourth win of the season. He struck out seven in five innings of work and was relieved by first-year Caleb Keen. Keen went two innings and struck out two.
Nick Schroedle pitched 5.1 innings of shutout ball in game two, striking out a career-high ten batters in the contest. Bryan Bullock threw the remainder of the game and added another K for eleven in total between the combo.
Instead of listing every player who recorded a steal, it's easier to make a table.
Crown next plays at the University of St. Thomas on Saturday in a single nine-inning contest. The Tommies are currently playing their last season in the NCAA Division III before joining the Division I Summit League in Fall 2021.
