ST. PETER, Minn. --- Crown Baseball was able to take advantage of some nice weather to get another set of games in on Friday, this time against Gustavus Adolphus on the Gusties' turf field. Unfortunately, the Storm dropped both games, with GAC defeating Crown 8-1 and 19-2.
The Storm's only run in game one came when senior Bailey Sarto hit a single to left field to score sophomore Andrew Sparlin. Sarto and sophomore Hunter Felts led Crown that game with two hits apiece. Nicholas Schroedle started for the Storm and had an impressive K/9 when he struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work. Schroedle ended up with the loss in game one and is now 0-2 this season. First-year Caleb Keen relieved Schroedle and struck out one to finish off the game.
In game two, the Storm scored when Spencer Lilienthal hit a sacrifice fly to score Kyle Schroedle, and on a series of events that included two wild pitches and a Seth Betts steal, first-year Mason Brock found home plate for the second Storm run. Betts, Kyle Schroedle, Nathan Gutierrez, and Jacob Crowley all pitched at least one inning for the Storm. Offensively, Gustavus held the Storm to only four singles, with Sparlin (2), Sarto, and Kyle Schroedle all recording hits.
Crown will get a much-needed break after already playing 11 games so far since February 27. Their next contest is scheduled for March 20 at Martin Luther in a non-conference game. However, as the Knights play on a dirt field and it is still March in Minnesota, make sure to keep updated on the Storm Athletics Twitter account or this website for up-to-date information.
