Brock's Home Run, Four Hits Not Enough Against Pipers

MINNEAPOLIS --- Crown College Baseball fell to the Hamline Pipers in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday night, 3-2 and 7-2.

Game one proved to be a pitching duel between first-year Caleb Yowell and Hamline's Zach Branson, both going five innings. The Storm scored twice, first on a Seth Betts' triple to score Bailey Sarto, and then later on a Chad Herrera sacrifice fly to score Betts.

First-year Mason Brock, Sarto, Betts, and Aaron Clogston all recorded two hits in the contest, with Betts and Brock having the Storm's two extra-base hits.

After Yowell started the game, Bryan Bullock pitched the sixth inning, completing the inning with one strikeout.

The Storm continued into game two, and unfortunately, the Pipers went up 5-0 by the middle of the second inning. Crown countered with a Brock home run, his second of his young collegiate career, and scored Rhys Dewick. Dewick remarkably did not have a single at-bat the entire contest, walking in every trip to the plate. The Storm were limited to seven hits and three extra-base hits, with Brock, Sarto, and Clogston having two hits and one extra-base hit each.

Pitching the second contest was Tyler VanCise, who had four outs before being relieved by reigning UMAC Pitcher of the Week Gavin Boots. Boots finished out the remainder of the game, allowing one earned run and striking out four in 5.2 innings of work.

With these two games, the Storm have played five games in three days and will two days off on Wednesday and Thursday before heading to Saint Peter to face the Gustavus Adolphus Gusties Friday afternoon.
