Knights Rally to Defeat Storm Despite Urbina's 18

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Women's Basketball faced the Martin Luther Knights on Monday night, and despite a stellar opening half, fell to the Knights 67-54. With this game, the Storm conclude their conference regular season.

After the Storm led in a low-scoring 2-0 first five minutes, Crown went on a run to end the first quarter leading 14-8 at the break. From there, they outscored Martin Luther 20-16 in the second period to take a 34-24 halftime lead. Unfortunately, the Knights battled back with an incredible defensive effort in the third quarter, outscoring the Storm by 17 and taking control the rest of the way.

Sophomore Dominique Urbina led the Storm with 17 points, three steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Fellow sophomore Amy Martius had 15 points in the contest despite battling foul trouble. Free throws were the difference-maker in the game as Martin Luther outscored the Storm 17-12 in free throw makes despite fewer attempts.

First-year McKenzie Latzke had an impressive 12 points in the first half and led the team with five steals. Another significant difference in this contest was the three-point shot, with the Storm making four three-point attempts in the first half but not getting one to fall in the second.

Shauna Thompson, Molly Schmitz, Raelin Smalley, May Laverty, and Thiery Zachary made up the rest of the Storm's scoring performance. Thompson also led the team with seven rebounds.

Crown moves on to the conference tournament, where they face the No. 1 North Central Rams on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Minneapolis.
