St. Bonifacius, Minn. – After a nail-biting four point victory in their season opener on Friday night, the Crown men's basketball team cruised in game two, winning by 28 points over non-conference opponent Beloit. Crown had four starters in double figures led by 24 from
Cade Carroll and 21 from
Seth Royston.
Crown once again dominated the categories of points in the paint and points off turnovers, holding a 46-22 edge in the paint and scoring an incredible 28 points off turnovers. That defensive effort led to a 47-25 half-time lead for the Storm.
The duo of Carroll and Royston had a combined six threes in the opening period as Crown shot 11-23 for the game, good for 47.8%, a far cry from their 3-25 performance from beyond the arc in the opening game.
Joining that pair in double figures was
Micah Ladd who scored a career high 15 points on perfect 6-6 shooting from the field and
Jacob Van Dam who finished with ten points including two threes.
The second half was more even than the first, but the result was never in doubt as Crown led by as many as 33, a lead attained with another massive dunk, this time from
Cade Neubert.
The Storm recorded 20 assists to just seven turnovers and forced 22 turnovers from their opponents.
Crown shot a robust 52.2% from the field and held the Buccaneers to just a 37% mark from the floor.
Crown remains at home next week as they welcome Augsburg to the Wild Athletic Center on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tipoff that is part of double-header and will feature the women's home opener at 6 p.m.
