Milwaukee, Minn. – The Crown women's basketball team earned a pair of road wins on a weekend road trip, defeating Alverno and Mount Mary in Milwaukee. The Storm earned a 60-52 win over the Inferno on Friday night before a resounding 79-39 win over the Blue Angels on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday night, Crown got a team high 18 points from
Shauna Thompson and used seven three pointers to separate themselves from Alverno in a close contest.
After leading by a single point at 13-12 after the first quarter, Crown used a big second quarter to earn some separation from the hosts. Crown rallied to a 22-11 advantage in the second, and that would proved to be enough as the Inferno earned slight advantages in the third and fourth quarters but were never able to regain the lead.
Amy Martius and
McKenzie Latzke joined Thompson in double figures as the Storm played the weekend without leading scorer
Dominique Urbina. That duo had 13 and 12 respectively, with Martius ending a single rebound shy of a double-double.
May Laverty had five points off the bench and led the team with 12 rebounds, including an incredible seven on the offensive end.
On Saturday, the Storm dominated from the start, holding Mount Mary to just 12 points in the first half on their way to a 32-12 lead. Crown exploded offensively in the second half, scoring 20 and then 27 points in the third and fourth quarters en route to the 40 point victory.
Latzke had a career high 24 points on 9-16 shooting and 4-7 from deep, adding a pair of free throws. Also in double-figures were Martius who had 15 and
Destiny Ray, who scored 18 points off the bench.
Madison Morken and Thompson reached double-digit rebounds with eleven and ten respectively.
The win pushes the Storm's season record to 3-1, as they prepare for a trip to Waldorf in Forest City, Iowa on Tuesday.
