NEW ULM, Minn. --- Crown baseball continued winning Friday evening, with victories of 5-3 in game one and 11-7 in game two over Martin Luther College. The sweep secured the first ever UMAC playoff berth in Crown's NCAA era.\
In game one, the Storm were down 0-2 going into the top of the 5th inning.
Matt Sanchez started the inning off with a single, but the next two batters flied out for the Storm. Now with two outs, the bats came alive. After a
Seth Betts walk,
Chad Herrera singled bringing in Sanchez.
Gideon Dunn followed with another single scoring Betts.
Bailey Sarto then hit his first of two doubles in the game, capping the Storm's inning with a total of 4 runs.
Sydney Ness went 7 solid innings for Crown giving up just six hits and three earned runs. Rico Aliva, fresh off his UMAC pitcher of the week award, came in for the two inning save giving up just two hits.
In game two, the Storm started hot gaining an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Crown would score at least one run in six of the nine innings before winning 11-7.
Chad Herrera would go 4-6 in the game and score two runs.
Matt Sanchez was also 3-4 scoring two runs.
Nicholas Schroedle got the nod pitching for the Storm and went 5.1 innings striking out six Knights. He handed the ball to
Kress Medina who went the rest of the way, pitching 3.2 innings only surrendering two hits.
Crown will have to wait until Saturday after a full slate of UMAC games for official seeding in the UMAC Tournament. Their first playoff game will take place Thursday May 9th.Â
The Storm will head to Augsburg Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader, first pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
