DULUTH, Minn. --- Crown Baseball was up in Duluth on Friday playing a set of UMAC contests against the conference leader St. Scholastica Saints. Unfortunately, the Storm were swept by the Saints 18-3, 11-9.
In game one, the three Storm runs came from an RBI single by
Dylan O'Neil scoring
Levi Knott,
Camden Wiens scoring on a throwing error, and an RBI fielder's choice from
Kress Medina scoring
Chad Herrera.
Derek Albers pitched a quality start for the Storm, going six innings with one earned run.
Nick Brock,
Chris Young, and
Bailey Sarto finished the game pitching for the Storm.
In the second contest, the game was much tighter and the Storm led at the end of six. However, a single Saints run in each of the last three innings led the Storm to fall 11-9 to the UMAC frontrunner. In the first inning,
Gideon Dunn had an RBI single that scored
Seth Betts to tie the game at one. After falling behind three runs, the Storm once again tied the game in the third inning when Sarto and Albers had RBI singles, and Medina had an RBI double. In the fifth, Dunn and Herrera had RBI singles to take a one run lead, but the Saints came marching back with three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a two-run lead. In the bottom of the sixth,
Brooks Repking, Betts, and Albers had RBI singles to retake the lead. Unfortunately, St. Scholastica once again came back to take the contest.
Ethan Hyatt,
Dylan Balfour, Medina, and Betts pitched for the Storm and had a combined four strikeouts. The Storm next compete on Sunday at noon on the University of Northwestern-St. Paul's campus for a doubleheader senior day against the traveling Northland Lumberjacks.
