ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Women's Basketball fell to the Bethany Lutheran Vikings 49-79 on Wednesday evening. The Storm stayed close with the Vikings for much of the game, but unfortunately, the Vikings showed why they only have a single UMAC loss as they pulled away in the early second half.
The Storm started the game up 9-7, and it looked like they may not miss a shot all night, but Bethany Lutheran came roaring back with an 11-0 run of their own. Junior
Damonyka Roberts nearly had another double-double with eight rebounds and eleven points; Roberts was the high-point woman for the Storm. First-year
Shauna Thompson scored nine points for the Storm, and both
Rose Crowns and
Marissa Ruf scored six. Thompson's nine points came exclusively on three-point attempts, as she shot 60% from beyond the arc.
Foul trouble played a part in both
Patricia Gibson and Crowns roles in the game, and limited Gibson to only 13 minutes. Junior guard
Stevey De La Ossa had three assists to lead the Storm in the game, and sophomore
Brooke Honeck led with three steals. The Storm bench outscored the Vikings bench 17-8 in this contest.
Crown Basketball heads on the road to northern Wisconsin for a matchup against Northland College on Saturday afternoon. The Storm return home the following Wednesday with the Martin Luther Knights coming to St. Bonifacius. Crown is looking for a sweep of the Knights.
