Crown's Comeback Tops UMAC Playoff Team

WATERTOWN, Minn. — Crown Baseball split with UW-Superior on Sunday evening, as the Yellowjackets clinched a spot in the UMAC Postseason Tournament. Crown struggled against UWS in game one, falling 4-16, but came back to beat Superior in game two 7-5.

In game one, Crown's defense struggled, allowing six unearned runs on five errors in the field. Two of Crown's four runs were scored when Gideon Dunn was at the plate; Dunn had two RBI singles. Crown also scored when Kress Medina found home after an error by the Yellowjackets third baseman, and on a Brooks Repking bases-loaded walk that scored first-year player Seth Betts.

In game two, Crown scored first after Seth Betts doubled to start the game, stole third, and scored on a groundout. However, Crown faced a 1-3 deficit in the middle of the third inning. A Gideon Dunn double scored Kress Medina, and Tanner Stoel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game. Superior added two more runs by the end of the sixth inning, and Crown faced a 3-5 UWS lead. However, Crown had a four-run eighth inning to take the game into their control. Connor Buchanan hit an RBI-single and Betts hit an RBI-double to tie up the game at five. Kress Medina reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed two runners to score for Crown to take a 7-5 lead and the game.

Crown's senior pitcher Tanner Pruett took the mound for the last time as a member of the Storm but had a short outing only pitching 2.1 innings with a single earned run (two unearned). JT Adams came in relief of Pruett and had one unearned run in 1.1 innings of work. Kress Medina finished off the game for the Storm, only allowing two hits, one run and striking out five Yellowjackets batters in 5.1 innings of work. Medina received the win for the Storm. This game was Medina's second straight win and has pitched at least five innings of relief in his past two appearances.

Crown has a little more than a single game left in their season. Today, Crown head to New Ulm for a non-conference starting at 5 pm vs. Martin Luther, and finishing up their delayed UMAC game with the Knights before the non-conference matchup.
