Crown Sweeps Martin Luther After Week Delay

NEW ULM, Minn. — Crown baseball came back and won their last UMAC game of the season against Martin Luther in New Ulm on Monday. Crown had a week to ponder a 4-1 Knight lead when the game was suspended in the bottom of the ninth inning last week, with one person on base and one out recorded before a nearby lightning strike stopped play for the night. The incoming storm gave the Storm a chance to regroup, and when they took the field again on Tuesday to finish gameplay, Crown scored four straight runs to defeat MLC.

In that game, Crown scored only a single run in day one on a Seth Betts solo home run. On day two, with Tanner Stoel on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Betts advanced him to second on a single down the left field line. Kress Medina walked to load the bases, and that gave Gideon Dunn an opportunity. Dunn hit a sacrifice fly to score Stoel and advance Betts, cutting into the lead 2-4, but putting Martin Luther an out away from sealing the game. Next up, Brooks Repking hit a single scoring Betts and advancing Medina to second. Juan Robles II came in to pinch hit for Connor Buchanan with two outs and two on, and his single scored both Medina and Repking with an error by the Knights first-baseman assisting the walk-off and Crown completed the conference game sweep of MLC.

Sydney Ness was credited with the win despite leaving the game a week before it was final, having a 1-4 MLC lead at that point, and never pitching on the final day. Tanner Pruett started the game and went eight innings with only two earned runs and striking out an impressive ten batters in the game.

Crown also played a seven-inning non-conference game after the comeback win. However, the momentum did not carry over as Crown fell 6-12. Kress Medina started out the game with an RBI-double that scored Seth Betts. Unfortunately, the scoring stopped for the Storm up until the bottom of the seventh where they trailed 1-12. They were able to score five runs late, but it wasn't enough to compete for a second comeback on the Knights.

Crown ends the season 3-13 in UMAC Play and 6-22 overall as first-year Head Coach Ryan Doheny completes his first season.
