Duluth, Minn. — Crown baseball was only a run shy of the nationally ranked St. Scholastica team as the Storm sought out their first UMAC win of the season. Crown pitcher
Sydney Ness had an amazing outing against the powerful Saints lineup, only allowing two earned runs in seven innings of work and striking out seven in the match.
Crown scored first in game one after
Gideon Dunn's double put Crown in a position to score. Dunn scored after advancing on a
Brooks Repking single and a
Jason Sroufe fielder's choice. Crown then allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Levi Knott came in the game to preserve the lead in the eighth inning, but Crown was able to find the run support to steal a game from the 2018 UMAC Champion after stranding runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings.
In game two, the Saints did not look to repeat a close game, defeating the Storm 0-16. Sroufe had Crown's lone hit in the matchup.
Crown has senior night at the Watertown field on Tuesday afternoon, as they face Martin Luther to continue their UMAC season.
